Gratitude

This week while reading the scriptures, I was able to recall some events from my childhood.  I remembered some lessons taught to me by my mom that changed how I prayed.

Philemon 1:4 Thank God for all things
“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers.”

This scripture is simple but it is also so meaningful to me. When I was growing up I remember being taught a lesson about this by my mother. Apparently, when I prayed I would always ask for things but never give thanks for what I already had. My mom sat me down one night after family prayers and taught me a lesson I would never forget. She said that I should try to say at least one prayer a week that only consisted of giving thanks to my Heavenly Father for all the things that I had. I shouldn’t ask for anything else during that prayer, just let my Heavenly Father know that I am so grateful for everything he has given me. The last thing she said to me was,

"What if you woke up one morning and all you had left was
the things that you said you were grateful for the night before in your prayers,
would you be happy with what you had?"

That is something that I think about every time I say my prayers. I am so grateful for all my blessing that God has given me and I think it is so important to let Him know how grateful we are each and every day or the blessings that I have.
